Kumon is a long-tem study programme that depends on a positive attitude from the student, full parental support, the Instructor’s expertise and commitment, and good communication between all three parties.
- provide individually planned work at the right level for the student, for daily completion.
- ensure that the student starts at a genuinely easy starting point of the programme.
- provide after-school classes twice a week, except during standard closures (for which I will give notice).
- give regular feedback to the student on their day-to-day progress in Kumon, and to clarify any misunderstandings that might arise in the student’s work.
- work with the student so as to ensure a strong benefit by the end of their first twelve months of study (provided that the set work is completed as specified).
- ensure that homework is marked carefully and on a daily basis. In addition, ensure that corrections are done and checked (also on a daily basis), together with any other activity agreed with the Instructor (eg times tables practice, English oral reading).
- remember that a fundamental aspect of Kumon study is mastery through practice. This involves a positive attitude to repetition, and praising the student for each improvement made in time and accuracy.
- bring the student to class, (unless by correspondence or virtual), and be responsible for their safety and behaviour outside the study area.
- give advanced notice of holidays and any occasional days when the student is unable to attend class (such as illness). Also, will make arrangements to collect/receive homework in such cases.
- recognise that Kumon is a long-term programme and that my child will get the full benefits of studying Kumon after 12 months.
- If the student becomes less positive about their work I will communicate with the instructor so that the work can be adjusted to suit the student.
- A single registration fee of £60 is due prior to commencement.
- Tuition fees of £80 per month per subject per child are due in advance (by 28th of the previous month – so April’s fees will be due by 28th March) by Standing Order.
- One full calendar months advance notice is required, in writing, (email) should you wish Kumon study to be terminated.
(For example, if notice is given on 5 February, March fees will be due on 28th February and study will terminate on the 31 March. This allows time for the work to be adjusted so that at the end of their last month’s study the child has a positive feeling about their work)
